This Mezuzah is the second collaboration of Romero Britto and Rabbi Robert Davis.

Romero Britto - There is an almost fairy-tale quality to the story of artist Romero Britto. Britto incorporates vibrant colors, pop imagery, and playful patterns of flowers and swirls as well as an inventive use of his signature as a pattern within his paintings. Vital to the essence of Britto's art is its unrestrained optimistic outlook on life.

Rabbi Robert Davis – The inspiration for the creations of Robert Davis emerge out of his own spiritual journey. He sees the Jewelry he designs and other artistic projects he has worked on as reminders to heal and transform the soul and the world and to create wholeness and holiness in time and space. Robert is a Rabbi at Temple Beth Sholom in Miami Beach.

The Mezuzah reminds that it is through our actions that we turn a house into a home.

Maimonides, the great Rabbi, taught: “One should always be attentive to the Mezuzah. Each time you enter or leave home you will encounter the unity of the Divine name and remember God’s love. You will be aroused from your sleep and your obsession with the ephemeral. You will recover your conscientiousness and walk in the ways of holiness.”

The tradition of affixing a Mezuzah to the doorpost of a Jewish home is over 2000 years old. The literal meaning of the word Mezuzah is doorpost or to an object affixed to it.

A Mezuzah contains a piece of parchment written by a scribe. On the parchment are written verses from the Torah (an appropriate scroll can be obtained from a Judaica store).

One Rabbi taught that the Mezuzah should be affixed vertically and another Rabbi taught that the Mezuzah should be affixed horizontally. To resolve this difference we place the Mezuzah on a slant. The Mezuzah is the first thing that we see when entering our homes, and should teach us and remind us that loving compromise is the doorway to a peaceful home.

A Britto Mezuzah can be purchased by contacting us by email or phone. A portion of the proceeds from this limited silk-screened series will be donated to The Switchboard of Miami, a non-profit counseling and prevention programs for high risk youths and their families and to Kesher, a non-profit special learning program for children with developmental disabilities in North Miami.
